April is National Poetry month and we have several ways to celebrate with our Poet Laureate Jeff Fallis!

  • Dial-a-Poem:
    During April, call 762-400-POEM to hear a recorded selection of poems by our Poet Laureate, Jeff Fallis.
  • Poems by Mail:
    Throughout April, Poet Laureate, Jeff Fallis, will be fulfilling requests for poems by mail! Just fill out this form to receive an original poem from Jeff or a copy of one of his beloved favorites by a fellow poet. Poems can be sent to yourself, or a loved one.
  • Interactive Poetry Installation:
    Visit our interactive poetry display at the Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade, 8:00 PM April 1 at Dudley Park.
  • Mayor & Commission Meeting:
    Tune in to the Mayor & Commission Agenda Setting Session April 18 at 6:00 PM to hear Jeff Fallis open the meeting with a poem.
  • Poetry in the Park:
    Join Poet Laureate Jeff Fallis & special guests April 29 2:00-3:30 PM for an afternoon reading in Boulevard Woods Park (298 Barber Street).
  • The Big Read:
    As part of the Athens-Clarke Library’s Big Read program exploring the 2019 poetry collection Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky, Jeff Fallis will be participating in two events: he will be leading the Overlooked Book Club in a discussion of Deaf Republic on April 26 at 7:30 PM at Viva Argentina, and he will be reading as a special guest, along with Noel Holston, at Athens Word of Mouth, upstairs at The Globe on May 3 at 7:00 PM
  • Playwrights Workshop and Georgia Climate Conference:
    Jeff Fallis will also be performing a lead role in two public readings of Athens playwright Alan Flurry’s new play Too Wonderful for Anybody in May.  The first reading will be through the Athens Playwrights Workshop at the UGA Fine Arts Cellar Theatre (255 Baldwin Street) on May 13 at 8:00 PM.  The second reading will be part of the Georgia Climate Conference, on May 16 at 8:00 PM, at the UGA Fine Arts Cellar Theatre.
